Creating art is a challenge to translate what I see onto paper, a constant push to capture the essence of a subject with energy, texture and layered strokes. I studied Art at UNC Asheville from 1996-2000 with concentration in pastels and figure drawing. My work in college left me with a love of drawing and mixed media techniques.
Since 2000 I have been working in oil pastels, experimenting and incorporating them with other media and on different supports. I use underpainting in watercolor or water soluble pastels underneath the buttery, rich texture of oil pastel.
I live in the Raleigh, NC area with my husband of ten years, our two year old daughter, and our sweet rescue dog, Penny.
Whether I paint a landscape, still life, or figurative work, I strive to demonstrate the beauty in everyday moments. A dilapidated barn on a country road, my daughter playing in the sand with her buckets, the farm you pass every day on your way to work; are all daily treasures that you can choose to recognize or pass by without notice.
